Healing the Children is a non-profit, non-partisan, volunteer organization with a 501(c)(3) I.R.S. tax exemption. Our purpose is to help children throughout the world receive medical care unavailable to them due to a lack of medical and financial resources or health insurance. Needy children are provided this vital medical care through three basic programs. As a part of this process, Healing the Children locates doctors and hospitals who are willing to donate their services, provides host families homes for the children when they are not in the hospital, and provides round trip airfare (which includes an escort) for each child. Our Domestic Program provides medical treatment and assistance to children in local communities who are unable to get these services due to a lack of financial resources. Our International Program brings children from different countries to the United States where they are matched up with specialized medical and surgical treatment. Children are placed in foster care while they are receiving treatment. Host families donate food, boarding and sometimes medications to the children. Our Medical Trips Program reaches across national boundaries to provide the world's children with desperately needed medical care. Teams of medical professionals volunteer their time and services to provide health screening and on-site surgery to children in less developed countries. Arrangements are made with our foreign hosts to provide housing, food and transportation for the team members and supplies and equipment are often donated by pharmaceutical companies and hospitals for each mission.
